Fun Fact: This Disney star’s first interview was done by one of AC’s editors!
AC: Was audition for “Shake It Up”the first Disney show you ever tested for?
BT: It was actually. I’ve never done comedy before, I’d only done drama.
AC: Do you feel like comedy comes naturally to you?
BT: I have to work at it. I think drama comes more natural to me.
AC: You dance a lot on “Shake It Up.” Does that help you stay fit?
BT: Yeah. It involves a lot of cardio, and I think that’s great. I also eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Spinach is one of my favorites. It’s so good with a little bit of salt.
AC: Were you a dancer before the show?
BT: No, I didn’t even know what an 8-count was! It was pretty sad.
AC: What do you love about dancing?
BT: I love that you get to express yourself through different movements. I think hip-hop is really cool.
AC: Who are some of your favorite artists to perform to?
BT: I like to dance to Enrique Iglesias because he has a lot of fast beat songs, and Lil Wayne because he’s beautiful and amazing and….yeah.
AC: Is he your celeb crush?
BT: Maybe a little.
AC: So you like rap then?
BT: I’m actually pretty good at it. I love performing.
AC: Your outfits on “Shake It Up” are so cute. Do you have any say in your character’s wardrobe?
BT: I have basically 85% say of what my character wears. I’ve even made outfits from scratch to wear on the show.
AC: We heard you’re a natural blonde. Why’d you go red?
BT: I dyed it for a role, then booked “Shake It Up,” so now I have to be a redhead. I feel like I’m still a blonde though, because I’m ditsy, but also spunky.
AC: Why do you think that it’s important for young women to be involved in sports like cheerleading?
BT: I always wanted to be a cheerleader but I never got to. We did have a cheerleading episode on our show and I was really excited about that. Let me just say that I found out cheering is really hard.
Bella Thorne, the star of the Disney Channel’s original series “Shake It Up,” will be in the Center Court at Spotsylvania Towne Centre from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Fans can get her autograph and photo for free, and can bring their own cameras to have their picture taken with her.
Joe Bell, spokesman for mall developer Cafaro Cos., said about 5,000 people attended Bella’s recent appearance at another Cafaro mall.
Thorne plays CeCe Jones, an aspiring dancer who lands a back-up role on her favorite show, Shake It Up, Chicago. The series premiered in November 2010 to 6.2 million viewers. That made it Disney Channel’s second highest rated series premiere to date and its highest rated Sunday premiere ever.
Shake It Up is the No. 1 series with kids ages 6-11 (1.8 million/7.3 rating) and tweens 9-14 (1.6 million/6.7 rating) through its first 17 shows, and is on pace to become the No. 1 tweens cable series of all time.
At the age of 13, Thorne already has a long resume. She has appeared in more than 20 films and television series. She starred in HBO’s hit drama Big Love as Bill Paxton’s free spirited daughter “Tancy (Teenie) Henrickson,” as Christian Slater’s daughter in NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy and Billy Baldwin’s daughter on ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money. On the big screen, Thorne stars in the psychological thriller Forget Me Not as the bullied, revengeful, orphaned “Angela” opposite Cody Linley, and as the female lead in the coming-of-age story, Raspberry Magic. Bella is a 3 time nominee for Young Artist Awards, winning it in 2009 for Best Supporting Young Actor in My Own Worst Enemy. This year, she won the Best Actress award for Shake It Up.
The youngest of four in a talented family of actors (sisters Dani and Kaili and brother Remy are actors, as well), Bella worked diligently to overcome a slew of horrific personal tragedies. Not only did she lose her father in a vehicular accident in 2007 and beloved grandmother shortly afterward, but Bella also has struggled to overcome dyslexia. Teased at school for her learning disability, she was homeschooled and eventually surpassed the expectancies of her grade level.
Bella Thorne was born in Florida and has three other siblings, Remy, Dani, and Kaili Thorne. At the tender age of six weeks old, Bella shot her first pictorial for “Parents Magazine.” She has continued to grace the covers of many national and international magazines and catalog covers since. She has appeared in more than 40 commercials. Bella was the spokesperson for Texas Instruments for 2 years.
